Men's Residential Program

GAIN SOBRIETY-MAINTAIN SOBRIETY-BUILD INDEPENDENT LIFE SKILLS

Men’s Residential Program –

Wellspring’s Men’s Residential Program, originally founded as the Bangor Halfway House, has evolved into a long-term residential treatment program for men with chronic substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. The program provides 15 beds and typically runs for 4 to 6 months, offering structured, supportive, and therapeutic care focused on achieving and maintaining sobriety while building skills for independent living.

Since opening its doors on Halloween Day in 1968, the Men’s Residential Program has continuously operated—making it the second-oldest substance use disorder program in Maine.

Admission Criteria

To be considered for residential treatment, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be free from mood-altering substances on the day of admission
  • Be physically and mentally able to participate in a therapeutic community environment
  • Be motivated and committed to their recovery journey

Maintaining Family Connections

Family involvement is strongly encouraged. Visits from spouses, children, and close family members are welcome, provided they are sober, safe, and willing to follow program rules. Maintaining these connections is seen as vital to long-term recovery.
