GAIN SOBRIETY-MAINTAIN SOBRIETY-BUILD INDEPENDENT LIFE SKILLS
Women’s Residential Program
Wellspring’s Women’s Residential Program offers long-term treatment (typically 4–6 months) for women with chronic substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. With 15 beds available, the program is structured to provide a safe, supportive environment where women can build a strong foundation in recovery, develop independent living skills, and access services both within the recovery community and the broader network of support in the region.
Opened on February 10, 1981, this program was the first halfway house for women in Maine, pioneering gender-responsive care in substance use treatment across the state.

Admission Criteria
To be eligible for residential treatment, applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be free from mood-altering substances on the day of admission
- Be physically and mentally able to participate in a therapeutic community
- Be willing and motivated to engage in the recovery process
Family Involvement & Visitation
We recognize the critical role that families—especially children—play in the recovery process. The Women’s House is intentionally decorated to feel home-like and nurturing. Mothers are encouraged to maintain close, responsible relationships with their children through frequent, supervised visits.
Other supportive family members and partners are welcome to visit, provided they are sober, pose no safety concerns, and are willing to follow program guidelines.
