Who We Are

New Horizons is a medically supervised withdrawal management Detox program located in Bangor, Maine. The program is dedicated to support and treat adults who are struggling with addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. New Horizons offers short term treatment (3-7 days) while an individual undergoes physical detoxification of opiates and alcohol. While in the Center the client will be provided with psycho-education skills and aftercare. Wellspring is one of two treatment facilities in the entire state of Maine that accepts MaineCare Insurance.

We believe everyone should have access to treatment.

To be considered for residential treatment, you must be:

1. Eighteen years of age or older
2. Detoxing from Alcohol and/or Opiates and Heroin
3. Motivated for Detox Treatment

How are New Horizons Detox Center services accessed?

Individuals interested in detox services may self-refer by calling New Horizons at 207-217-6521.

Persons seeking treatment will undergo a detailed phone screening by nursing staff to determine program eligibility. If found eligible for the program, next steps for gaining admittance to the program will be provided.  It’s important to call New Horizons and follow the admittance process to ensure medically appropriate treatment and that there is a bed available.

What does treatment consist of?

We use a combination of therapy, psycho-education, and medication management to assist in the detoxification process.

Services Include:

• Daily Individual and Group Counseling
• Specialized treatment and medical consultation for clients
• Affective Other Group
• Referrals to a various community and social service resources
• Participation in the 12-Step Community
• Introduction to Bangor Area Recovery Network (BARN) and other community resources 

What else should I know?

New Horizons Detox Center helps individuals to understand, recognize, and respond to the effects of trauma and addiction. We believe recovery from extreme stress and adversity requires an environment that promotes healing.

In this healing environment, visitors are not permitted in order for individuals to focus on their recovery from substance use disorder during their stay.
